21.07.2016 – Movers and Shakers by Dukascopy

By | July 21, 2016

Once again, there has been plenty of moving and shaking in the currency markets, so let’s find out more.
Pound/Yen saw a sharp drop after 7 o’clock in the morning, and it is the Mover of the Day with a loss of 1.21%.
The reason for this drop is the Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda. His assurances helicopter money is not coming have put the Yen right at the top of the Advancers and Decliners table.
Australian Business Confidence eased in the second quarter, but the Aussie is up against most rivals.
The other two commodity currencies are trading almost level with each other, with Loonie a fraction up from the Kiwi.
Moving point 18% lower, we get to the Buck, which received some support as the latest US Jobless Claims surprised on the upside.
The Common Currency saw some strong moves during the European Central Bank press conference, but it eventually settled point 15% up from the Swissie.
And the UK is getting its first taste of post-Brexit data as retail sales dropped by point 9% in June. As a result, the Sterling is the most bearish of the eight majors.
Let’s take a look at the long-term charts. Euro/New Zealand has gained most over a week, as it’s up by 2.36%, whereas New Zealand/Dollar posts the biggest decline, namely, 3.17%.
Euro/Pound remains the top performer in monthly terms, having gained 8.59%. Pound/Australia tops the bearish chart with a drop of 10.47%.
I’m Celeste Skinner and this was the Movers and Shakers Report for Thursday. Check back in tomorrow for the latest overview. Goodbye for now.
